After weeks of waiting, we have a new episode of Gravity Falls! And was it worth the wait? Well . . . (Spoilers!)

Eh. It’s an episode of Gravity Falls. That pretty much guarantees that it’s going to be well scripted, well animated, and well thought out. And The Stanchurian Candidate is all of those things! But despite that, I have to say I was a little disappointed.

The concept – Stan running for mayor, while Dipper and Mabel stop him from saying anything stupid by controlling his mind – is a plotline straight out of so many B-movies. It’s not the first time that has used B-movie plots – Double Dipper, Carpet Diem spring to mind – but to me, those have been some of the weakest episodes. They’re entertaining, and I’m always up for rewatching them, but they don’t really seem to contribute to the overall plot of the show. And I think that’s my biggest problem with the episode – there’s very little (save for the end-tag with Gideon) that hints towards the overall ‘big things’ the show promises. Despite that, The Stanchurian Candidate is a fun, silly episode with some great moments, and it was fantastic to get more Lil’ Gideon; hopefully it’s not the last we’ll see of widdle ol’ him.
